For those hearing about the book for the first time, here is a little more about it.

Why the Curlew Cries

Some places keep their secrets.

In the remote Irish countryside, old grief has a way of settling into the walls, and the Roddys have lived with theirs for generations.

When a long-buried darkness begins to surface, former Garda Jack Dawson is drawn into a story shaped by silence, loyalty and the things families do to survive.

As the past presses closer, Jack must decide how much truth one small community can bear, and what it will cost to uncover it.

Haunting, intimate and steeped in the unease of the rural west, Why the Curlew Cries is an Irish Gothic crime novel about memory, inheritance and the secrets we carry home.

The novel was inspired in part by the 1895 Tipperary changeling murder of Bridget Cleary and the unresolved disappearances associated with Ireland’s Vanishing Triangle.

Why the Curlew Cries is entirely fictional. It does not retell any of those cases or turn the people involved into characters. Instead, it draws on the old beliefs, unanswered questions and terrible silences surrounding them, as well as the families who have never stopped searching for answers.

It has been a long road getting this book finished, and I am looking forward to finally putting it into readers’ hands.

Thank you for staying with me.
